Why Green?

Why green? Good question. Why not brown, or blue or even fuchsia? To answer that is not easy, but we'll try. Here goes....

The way we see it, there are 2 kinds of people in the world – those who like Polar Bears, and those who do not. You know what I mean. Tell me, when you were a kid, there were certain things that your mother taught you, certain things that were just a given, right? - you need to eat your veggies if you want to grow up big and strong; we don't live in a barn, so close the stinkin' door; stay away from weird uncle Joey; and do absolutely whatever is necessary to save the Polar Bears. I mean, it's just basic common sense, right?

Who hasn't seen the images of the cute, little Polar Bear floating away from his mother on that broken-off piece of ice and not had your heart just wrenched out of your chest? We all have. At least those of us who aren't cold, heartless jerks. So, you see, you either like Polar Bears, or you don't. It's that simple.

Well, around here at ibuysmartphones.com, we not only like Polar Bears, we love them. And I mean love them like no Polar Bear has ever been loved before. Therefore, we feel that we have a responsibility to do whatever we can to keep those little baby Polar Bears from floating away from their mothers on those broken-off pieces of ice. Never mind that they are born knowing how to swim, that's not the point. The point is we need to do whatever we can to help them out.

So here's our solution – we'll buy your unused, unwanted smartphones to keep them out of those mean ol' land-fills, thus helping our friends, the Polar Bears.

Consider the following ........

  • each day Americans throw away over 350,000 cell phones containing lead, cadmium, mercury, chromium, and polyvinyl chloride. yuck!
  • In 2005, the EPA estimated that unwanted electronics represented 1.9 to 2.2 million tons. The majority of these products, about 1.5 to 1.9 million tons, were discarded in landfills with only 345,000 to 379,000 tons recycled
  • Although only a small piece of equipment, the chemicals released from a single mobile phone when disposed of in landfill has the potential to pollute enough water to fill 10,000 bath tubs!
  • consumers are upgrading and changing their mobile phones on average every 12-18 months
  • Just one mobile phone battery contains enough cadmium - a toxin and carcinogen - to pollute 600,000 liters of water
  • only a staggering 10% of cell phones are being recycled on an annual basis
  • Polar Bears can swim in excess of 6 miles an hour. wow!

Pretty interesting stuff, huh? And kinda scary. I don't know about you, but I'm not a big fan of cadmium flavored water. It has a bitter aftertaste and I'm more of a Mr. Pibb kind-a-guy anyway.

So, what can we do? Well, as my mom used to say - let's all just buckle down, and do our part to save those cute little Polar Bears. You sell us your used smartphone and we'll take care of it in a responsible way. That way, we all win – you, me and the polar bears. How cool is that?
